This
is a more advanced workshop that teaches over 40 exercises using unstable
surfaces, such as Swiss ball, kinesthetic board, foam rollers, trampoline,
slide, and balance beam. Unstable training develops strength in the stabilizer
muscles and conditions the nervous system to recruit muscles to improve
performance and avoid injury. Life doesn't happen in a perfectly balanced,
stable environment. Real-life movements are performed in three dimensions
in an unstable environment, so your clients need to be trained that way.
At the conclusion of this presentation, you will be able to demonstrate
a wide variety of stabilizer exercises to your clients, and modify them
to an appropriate level of difficulty.
**Certified fitness professionals attending this workshop are eligible to receive .4 CEUs for ACE, ACSM, NSCA, and NFPT. Most other major fitness organizations accept ACE courses for continuing education credits.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Introduction, kinetic chain of movement and the concept of the weakest link in the chain as the limiting factor in performance. Discussion of major movements and important stabilizer and neutralizer muscles for each. Signs of stabilizer weakness during certain movements. Challenging the nervous system with increasingly more difficult stabilization requirements. Machines vs. free weights, barbells vs. dumbbells, stable vs. unstable training environments.
Demonstration and discussion of dozens of variations and progressions of unstable exercises for:
Stabilization of the Spine.
Stabilization of the ankle/knee/hip kinetic chain.
Stabilization of the shoulder girdle.
Open practice session and Q & A for each section.
