Dan DeFigio is the Director of BASICS AND BEYOND, LLC. He works as a professional trainer, nutrition counselor, and author in the Nashville, Tennessee area. He holds a number of prestigious national and international certifications, and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dan has been featured on The Dr. Phil Show, SELF magazine, Personal Fitness Professional, and MD News, and is the former host of the television series Fitness Basics and Beyond. He has been a frequent consultant to The Tennessean's Health and Fitness section, and a contributing editor of the official publication of the National Federation of Professional Trainers. The continuing education workshops that he presents to other fitness professionals have been featured on the cover of Personal Trainer Magazine, and Dan is also interviewed extensively in Regency Publishing's book America's Top Trainers Answer Your Fitness and Nutrition Questions. Basics and Beyond fitness and nutrition is featured as a case study in the book How to Open and Operate a Financially Successful Personal Training Business.
Dan is recognized by the American Council on Exercise as one of only a handful of Continuing Education Specialists in the state of Tennessee. He is also a State Examination Official for the National Federation of Professional Trainers, and was selected as a Subject Matter Expert for an elite panel of only 10 experts in the nation to revise the teaching curriculum for personal trainers worldwide. In addition to teaching exercise and nutrition, Dan studies and teaches mixed martial arts and self-defense. Dan specializes in post-injury exercise and posture correction.

ZANE GRIGGS
Zane Griggs has been certified by the American Council on Exercise since 1998, and also holds a specialty certification in TRX bodyweight suspension training. Zane is a creative and versatile trainer who creates functional fitness routines for clients that assist in making health and fitness part of a client's "real life".

JENNIE HOEFT
Jennie Hoeft is a women's fitness expert, and author of Fundamental Fitness: Playground Exercises for Grownups. Jen is an ACE-certified personal trainer, a JohnnyG certified SPIN instructor, and a 16-year veteran of group fitness training. As a professional drummer, she has combined her passion for music and wellness into a unique and real approach to knowing, challenging, and celebrating the body inside and out. Jen is a health consultant and writer for Modern Drummer Magazine, and the host of the Fit in the Fast Lane video series of fitness tips for travelers. Jen studies yoga, is an avid swimmer, and says "Diversity, balance, and laughter are the keys to a great workout."

GEORGE HEARN
George Hearn has been an orthopedic and sports physical therapist in the Nashville area since 1988. After graduating from Northwestern University, he served as Director of Sports Performance Testing for Southern Sports Medicine and has also been associated with the Sports Medicine Center at Baptist Hospital. He is certified as both a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and as a Personal Trainer by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Over twenty years of practical experience studying and applying resistance training techniques and philosophies enable him to design safe, effective, and efficient programs which allow his clients to attain maximum results in minimal time.

KANDICE KING
Kandice King is certified as a Personal Trainer, a Group Fitness Instructor, and a Resist-A-Ball CORE Master Trainer. She is also certified in Pilates, Piyo, and Kickboxing. Kandice received a BS in Nutrition from University of Tennessee at Knoxville in May 1998. Since that time she has worked as a nutrition clinician at Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee. Kandice has been enthusiastically involved in individualized fitness since May 1999. In order to improve total-body fitness, Kandice incorporates cardio, strength, endurance, balance, and coordination exercises in each training session. Kandice is a knowledgeable, fun-loving, effective trainer. She is dedicated to working with all fitness and age levels.

ANTHONY PERKINS
Anthony Perkins has been personal training since 2000, and we are honored to have him on our team! Anthony is certified as a personal trainer, an advanced sports nutrition specialist, an advanced endurance training specialist, and an advanced weight training specialist. He is also a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor (Titleist Performance Institute). Anthony is a gentle, understanding trainer who specializes in weight management, functional training, strength and conditioning workouts, and holding clients accountable.

SARAH-JANE HILL
Sarah-Jane Hill is certified by the National Federation of Professional Trainers and is also a certified Spinning instructor. She has trained with Billy Blanks in kickboxing, and also practices Yoga as part of her every day routine. Before moving to Nashville, Sarah-Jane spent 12 years as an acting coach in Los Angeles. This taught her the value of a healthy mindset in training towards a fit body. She is now the mother of twins. Sarah-Jane is a caring trainer who finds the best path for her clients to help bring power and control into their commitment to nutrition and exercise.

RANDY PENDERGRASS, LMT
Randy Pendergrass is a Nashville native. Randy has a degree in exercise physiology, and is a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. As a licensed sports nutritionist, Randy has served St. Thomas hospital for the last 12 years specializing in dietary counseling for patients with diabetes, cardiac disease, cancer, and metabolic disorders. Randy says, "As a cancer survivor, I feel that our health is the most important possession we have. If we take care of our bodies, they will take care of us."

NANCY NORMAN
Nancy Norman has transitioned from spa management to one-on-one personal fitness training, and joined the Basics and Beyond team as a veteran of the fitness industry. Her fitness career began almost 20 years ago, and since then she has been creatively designing fun and effective programs for both group and one-on-one training. The programs she has initiated such as Women on Weights, Creative Movement for Children, and Tri-Training have all been well received.

ALISON JERNIGAN

DR. DAVID SHEER
Dr. David Sheer has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a Master’s Degree in Orthopedic Manual Therapy. He is currently a clinical instructor for the Belmont University physical therapy students. ADAM MATACALE
Adam Matacale is an ISSA-certified trainer who specializes in general conditioning and getting in amazing shape! Bobby Talley has been training since 2002. He has an Exercise Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and formerly worked for the athletic department at the University of Tennessee.

Tony Lewis brings enthusiasm, energy, and fun to your workout! He has a master's degree in Exercise Science. Tony became Lead Personal Fitness Training Professor at Med Vance Institute in 2009. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), along with a Titleist Performance Golf Fitness Trainer. AMY LAMB
Amy Lamb is a certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise, as well as a certified SPIN instructor through Mad Dogg Athletics. She holds a degree in Physical Education from the University of Southern Indiana, and a second degree from Vincennes University (where she played Division I basketball).
Amy started her career in corporate fitness in 2007, and since then has continued to grow as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, and fitness professional.
