- Students will learn the physiological and neurological basis for how explosive training works, and will be able to assess a client's readiness to begin including explosive and/or plyometric exercises in his or her strength training program.
- Students will learn an appropriate progression of explosive exercises.
- Students will be exposed to the proper execution of various explosive and plyometric strength training exercises, including the Olympic lifts.
COURSE OUTLINE:
I. Plyometrics defined, neurological principles of how plyometric training works. Handouts.
II. Assessing a client's readiness for explosive and/or plyometric exercises, including current research.
III. Technique Section 1 - Basic Plyometric Progression. Demonstration and discussion of proper execution of:
- Correct landing technique and foot strike mechanics
- Bounding
- Hopping
- Skipping
- Tuck jumps
- Depth jumps
IV. Exercise Programming - Warmup techniques, appropriate training volume and foot contacts, frequency, overload.
V. Technique Section 2 - Demonstration and discussion of proper execution of:
- Squat press
- Squat throw
- Overhead medicine ball throw
- Weighted calf jumps
VI. Technique Section 3 - Demonstration and discussion of proper execution of:
- Push press/jerk
- Hang clean
- Power clean
- Snatch
**Certified fitness professionals attending this workshop are eligible to receive .3 CEUs for ACE, ACSM, NSCA, and NFPT. Most other major fitness organizations accept ACE-approved courses for continuing education credits.
