Dan DeFigio is the Director of BASICS AND BEYOND,
LLC. He works as a professional trainer, nutrition counselor, and
author in the Nashville, Tennessee area. He holds a number of prestigious
national and international certifications.
Dan is the host of the television show Fitness
Basics and Beyond. He is also a frequent consultant to The Tennessean's
Health and Fitness section, and is a contributing editor of the
official publication of the National Federation of Professional
Trainers. Dan has been featured in SELF magazine, Personal
Fitness Professional, and ACE Certified News. The continuing
education workshops that he presents to other fitness professionals
have been featured on the cover of Personal Trainer Magazine.
Dan is recognized by the American Council on Exercise
as one of only a handful of Continuing Education Specialists in
the state of Tennessee. He is also a State Examination Official
for the National Federation of Professional Trainers. In addition
to teaching exercise and nutrition, Dan studies and teaches martial
arts and self-defense. Dan specializes in post-injury exercise, postural correction, and pain relief.

ZANE GRIGGS

Zane Griggs has been certified by the American
Council on Exercise since 1998. Zane specializes in exercises that
challenge the core musculature (abdominals and lower back). Zane
is a creative and versatile trainer who will create a functional
fitness routine for you that will assist in the physical challenges
of daily life. Zane is a co-host of the television series Fitness
Basics and Beyond.

JENNIE HOEFT

Jennie Hoeft is a women's fitness expert, and
author of Fundamental Fitness: Playground
Exercises for Grownups. Jen is an ACE-certified personal
trainer, a JohnnyG certified SPIN instructor, and a 16-year veteran
of group fitness training. As a professional drummer, she has combined
her passion for music and wellness into a unique and real approach
to knowing, challenging, and celebrating the body inside and out.
Jen is a health consultant and writer for Modern Drummer
Magazine, and the host of the Fit in the Fast Lane video
series of fitness tips for travelers. Jen studies yoga, is an avid
swimmer, and says "Diversity, balance, and laughter are the
keys to a great workout."

GEORGE HEARN

George Hearn has been an orthopedic and sports
physical therapist in the Nashville area since 1988. After graduating
from Northwestern University, he served as Director of Sports Performance
Testing for Southern Sports Medicine and has also been associated
with the Sports Medicine Center at Baptist Hospital. He is certified
as both a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and as a Personal
Trainer by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Over
twenty years of practical experience studying and applying resistance
training techniques and philosophies enable him to design safe,
effective, and efficient programs which allow his clients to attain
maximum results in minimal time.

BRIAN POILE

Brian Poile has ten years experience working
with sports teams across the country to compliment his personal
training certification. He has trained with athletes and been mentored
by over a dozen strength and conditioning coaches at the collegiate
and professional levels. Brian specializes in tailoring programs
to meet client needs in cardiovascular programming, nutrition guidance,
resistance, stabilization, agility, speed and power training. Brian
is a fun, energetic, innovative trainer who motivates his clients
to achieve their immediate fitness goals, and teaches positive habits
for life-long training enjoyment.

KANDICE KING

Kandice King is certified as a Personal Trainer,
a Group Fitness Instructor, and a Resist-A-Ball CORE Master Trainer.
She is also certified in Pilates, Piyo, and Kickboxing. Kandice
received a BS in Nutrition from University of Tennessee at Knoxville
in May 1998. Since that time she has worked as a nutrition clinician
at Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee. Kandice
has been enthusiastically involved in individualized fitness since
May 1999. In order to improve total-body fitness, Kandice incorporates
cardio, strength, endurance, balance, and coordination exercises
in each training session. Kandice is a knowledgeable, fun-loving,
effective trainer. She is dedicated to working with all fitness
and age levels.

ANTHONY PERKINS

Anthony Perkins has been personal training
since 2000, and we are honored to have him on our team! Anthony
is certified as a personal trainer, an advanced sports nutrition
specialist, an advanced endurance training specialist, and an advanced
weight training specialist. Anthony is a gentle, understanding trainer who specializes
in weight management, functional training, strength and conditioning
workouts, and holding clients accountable.

SARAH-JANE HILL

Sarah-Jane Hill is certified by the National
Federation of Professional Trainers and is also a certified Spinning
instructor. She has trained with Billy Blanks in kickboxing as well
as traditional western-style boxing. She continues to study Yoga
by making it a part of her every day routine. Before moving to Nashville,
Sarah-Jane spent 12 years as an acting coach in Los Angeles. This
taught her the value of a healthy mindset in training towards a
fit body. Sarah-Jane is a gentle, caring trainer who looks for the
best path for her clients to help bring power and control into their
commitment to nutrition and exercise.

GRETCHEN LACKEY

Gretchen Lackey has recently joined Basics and Beyond. While attending Florida State University, she was a member of their track and cross-country teams. Gretchen spent a number of years as an Exercise Specialist in Florida working with individuals recovering from back injuries, and working in a cardiac rehabilitation facility. She enjoys working out, and reading 3 or more books at a time.

RANDY PENDERGRASS

Randy Pendergrass is a Nashville native. Randy has a degree in exercise physiology, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. As a licensed sports nutritionist, Randy has served St. Thomas hospital for the last 12 years specializing in dietary counseling for patients with diabetes, cardiac disease, cancer, and metabolic disorders. Randy says, "As a cancer survivor, I feel that our health is the most important possession we have. If we take care of our bodies, they will take care of us."

NANCY NORMAN

Nancy Norman has transitioned from spa management to one-on-one personal fitness training, and joins the Basics and Beyond team as a veteran of the fitness industry. Her fitness career began almost 20 years ago, and since then she has been creatively designing fun and effective programs for both group and one-on-one training. The programs she has initiated such as Women on Weights, Creative Movement for Children, and Tri-Training to name a few have all been well received.

Alison Brady has numerous prestigious certifications: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and a Certified Personal Trainer with both the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
